Maker Lab Assistant

Location: Central Library
Deadline: Open until filled

20 hrs./wk.; $17.31/hr. Benefits include paid sick time plus personal time after an initial employment period.

Maker Lab Assistants oversee the regular operations of the Maker Lab, including providing training and assistance with a variety of equipment and software, giving tours of the space, enforcing safety guidelines and policies, stocking supplies, keeping a clean and organized space, and maintaining equipment and software in collaboration with IT staff. In addition, lab assistants should document patron feedback about the space and share maker success stories. Effective communication skills are essential, including maintaining regular communications with library administration and branch management teams about lab operations, needs, and opportunities.

Applicants must have a demonstrated aptitude for technology, including a minimum of 2 years’ experience in computer or technology-related services. A high school diploma or equivalent is required; some college preferred. The successful candidate will work the following rotating schedule. They may also occasionally be asked to work extra shifts covering for other staff in the Maker Lab or Digital Media Lab.

  • Wednesday  11:00 AM–7:00 PM
  • Thursday  11:00 AM–3:00 PM
  • Alternating Fridays & Saturdays  9:00 AM–5:00 PM

Reference Clerk

Location: Mt. Washington Branch Library
Deadline: Open until filled

40 hrs./wk.; $17.31/hr. Benefits include retirement, health insurance, life insurance, and paid sick time and vacation time plus personal time after an initial employment period.

Reference clerks provide specialized services to patrons in person, by phone, and online. This may include but is not limited to teaching computer classes in groups or on a one-on-one basis, planning and facilitating educational and cultural programs for adults, assisting patrons with research projects or advanced computer problems, providing reader advisory services, and evaluating and explaining library resources and services. In addition, reference clerks assist the branch management team with collection maintenance, staff training, and building community engagement. We are especially seeking candidates who can demonstrate excellent information literacy and communication skills.  At least one year of library experience is required, with some college preferred.

The successful candidate will work the following weekly schedule:

  • Sunday, 12:00–5:00 PM
  • Monday–Wednesday, 9:00 AM–6:00 PM
  • Saturday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
