Elementary:  Second Place

My Sanctuary

I see

branches

with red, yellow,

orange, brown and green leaves

down on the ground,

grass swaying, dancing

with the wind,

up above I see

birds chirping

squirrels

bounding branch to branch

the endless

baby blue sky.

I smell

sweet flowers

in the spring,

damp grassy dirt

in the fall

colorful leaves below,

cold crisp air,

the frozen

bare branches in the winter.

I taste

the whistling wind,

the fresh grass

after it’s been cut,

crunchy sweet

green apples

while I climb

high in the tree.

I hear

the sweet sound

of peacefulness

on a warm summers day,

leaves waving and

hitting the branches,

the chirping of

beautiful

little birds

chirp…chirp,

the whizzing

The whizzing

wintry wind.

I feel

the bumpy

old branches,

the warm sun rays

on my face

on a beautiful

summer day,

little dancing rain drops

on my face in the fall

I feel

safe in

my tree.
