Elementary:
Between the Boards
In my backyard there is a place that only I go to
It is between the two wooden fences
There is a little creek
Where the green, slippery frogs play
Between the Boards
There is tall grass
Where no one can see you
Under it’s long, slender stems
Between the Boards
There are birds
That chirp there
All day
Between the Boards
There are butterflies
That flap there delicate, glassy wings
Through and through
The boards
There are bees
Buzzing
Buzzing
Over and over
The flowers
Between the Boards
There are busy ants
That march over your feet
And between your toes
Between the Boards
There are sly mosquitoes
That I slap
When they bite me
Between the Boards
The sun glitters
The light shines
It blinds you
For a second
Between the Boards
It falls night
The moon and the stars shine so bright
The moon like cheese
And the stars like mini suns
Between the boards
Fire flies zoom
And I catch them
From all around
I see them
All around me
I know I am
Between the Boards
A stressed mother cat passes
Followed by tiny, little kittens
I reach out to pet her
But I think different
She is tired and probably doesn’t want to be bothered
Between the Boards
A howl echoes
Through the air
I feel chills go down
My spine
But I know I’m safe
Between the Boards
I hear the soft hum of loneliness
Nothing moves
Or sounds
I know I’m alone
Between the Boards
