A Love Like Winter
As sharp as
a knife, the wind cuts through
At twenty
degrees, I may die, it’s true
The
December sky, blue and gray
The sun is
shining, less than a ray
The wind
blows harder, I loose myself
I can’t
hear or see a thing, I plead for help
Hands like
ice grip my own
Pulling me
close, I know I’m not alone
The wind
blows fierce, whipping my hair around my face
I loose my
breath, almost like after a race
Then, a
soft murmuring in my ear
I give a
questioning look, for I cannot hear
He speaks
again, his eyes soft and gentle
I grip the
locket around my neck, it’s meaning sentimental
Then it
hits me like a bullet to my chest
I thought
he’d left, not so, I guess
He says he
loves me, but is it the truth?
He says it
like he did when we were in our youth
His icy
hands on either side of my cheeks
It’s been
days I dreamt of this moment, months and even weeks
I stumble
closer to him, as if about to fall
Who said
that its better to have loved and lost
I wish that
I had never loved at all
