First Place—Adult

The Place Where I Came From

The streams cool petrified pickles at the Orphan’s Picnic

Petticoats catch fire and burn babies—who must learn to walk again at three.

Water kills the Drunkard.

Yellow ducks warm behind the stove.

The weather channel is always on.

God’s book rests on the neighbor’s chimney.

No singing is allowed on the bus.

Boys that sign your book can steal your soul.

Buried pictures don’t decay fast enough.

The Blacksmith had five wives.

Violets and Dandelion Greens disguise the yard.

Two weeks can last for Years.

Tabloids sit beside The Word.

Women roofers bobby-pin their hair.

The river swallows unhappy men.
