The Bullitt County
Library will hold its next Veterans History Project session at the Ridgway
Memorial Library Branch. This
project seeks to document the still untold stories of American Heroes and
preserve American History. The group is in search of Bullitt County Veterans who
would like to participate sharing their experiences while serving our Country.
The VHP is also seeking volunteers to help recruit Veterans, and volunteers who
may be interested in interviewing, transcribing, photographing or video taping
interviews.
“Bullitt County has an estimated 5200 veterans” stated Jim Swartwood, Issue Specialist for the Veterans History Project, AARP Kentucky. The project, first of its kind in the Nation, is run by volunteers rather than professional Oral Historians. Founded by the AARP, United States Congress endorsed legislation creating the project through Public Law 106-380 in 2000.
This project seeks to collect personal stories via interviews (in person, tape or video recorded) as well as memorandums and other artifacts that Veterans and family members may share. These artifacts could include letters, medals, citations, photographs or uniforms of United States Armed Forces Veterans.
Please join us in a united effort to preserve the legacy of our Nation’s Heroes. Our Veterans and Volunteers are needed in order for this project to be a success. All American Veterans are invited to attend including active military personnel/spouses/families, and civilians. For more information or directions, call 502.543.7675
